I graduated from Whitworth University with a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. Since then I have worked for Lutheran Community Services and Spokane Public Schools helping children and adolescents struggling with Anxiety, Depression, PTSD, ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, family conflict and other issues.
I love children and have a lot of experience working with children of various ages in different settings. Prior to becoming a therapist I was an elementary school teacher, middle school youth leader, nanny, mentor, soccer coach, and teacher for high school students from Japan. I also understand that parenting (although amazing and rewarding) can be super challenging. One of my passions is to offer support to parents in addition to supporting their children. If you are feeling overwhelmed, tired, and you love your kids but are so unbelievably frustrated with them then you are not alone! I hope to give you some tools and also help you to have some grace toward yourself because parenting is not easy!
I am also passionate about helping couples develop healthy relationships. Strong marriages tend to produce strong families. Strong marriages also take a lot of work! Sometimes the way we communicate what we need does not get us the response we want. Our deepest hurts often happen in the marital relationship because we care so much. If we didn’t care it wouldn’t hurt. But wounds can heal and I truly enjoy watching it happen. I have hope for your relationship and believe a healthy marriage is worth the work!
One of the scriptures I love that relates to my work as a
counselor is Proverbs 20:5—
“The purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters,
but one who has insight draws them out.”
As humans we can get ourselves into some deep waters. It can
feel dark, scary, and hopeless. Sometimes we need another
person to help us find our way through the murk. This is why
I pursued a career as a counselor. Hope is what Jesus gives
me, and it is the best gift. I am inspired to do the same and
to give hope to others.
I look forward to meeting you and am excited to start our work together!
